Today’s students enter our highly visual industry at a moment in time when visual storytelling is valued more than ever—and lucky for them! Beautiful, captivating beauty images can rapidly build a new professional’s book. Our instructors for this important, contemporary and unique LAB-based class are expert photographers who guide students deep into the discipline, covering everything from equipment hardware, lighting and framing to software, editing and polishing. Students learn to work with a variety of lighting conditions and editing apps.
Instagram has been a game-changer for pros in our industry to recruit and retain clients, share their art and technique with peers and just have fun with their craft. For new graduates, Instagram is the price of admission—one of the first places employers check to see what a job applicant has to offer. That’s why we spend time teaching them how to set up a business account to establish their brand as a professional and then how to engage viewers with eye-catching imagery, clever captions, stories and more. We look at each of Instagram’s photo and video opportunities and share the insight we’ve gained from research into the best posting practices, strategies to pull attention, how to decode and use analytics and ways to forge trusted, career-building relationships.
Clients go to review sites to critique professionals’ work, personal demeanor, conversational style, appearance and everything else about them. Prospective clients often book appointments based on these reviews, so it’s important that reviews boost, not sink, the new pro’s reputation. We give students the tools to capitalize on this dynamic by asking for reviews, turning negative reviews to their advantage and maximizing the reach of positive reviews.
